More than two million Syrian children are out of school. Some have lost their schools to destruction. Others still have a building, but nothing inside it that makes learning possible.

These children belong to the second group. The buildings are still standing; the children are waiting. But everything in between (desks, water, and safety) is missing.

Douma Secondary School: 160 Girls.

This two-story school building holds eight classrooms, two administrative rooms, and two training labs on the ground floor. But it cannot open its doors until it is made safe; until it is repaired, given clean water and toilets, and made whole again.

Mahmoud Darwish Primary School: 600 Children.

Mahmoud Darwish School consists of two buildings. One holds seven classrooms, and the other holds nine classrooms and an administration room on two floors. Both need repairs and clean water before children can return.

Suhail Al-Takla Secondary School: 850 Boys

Each floor has seven classrooms and an administration room. But the building can’t welcome its 850 students until it is repaired and safe, with working water and toilets.

What the renovation covers:

Everything a building needs to become a school again: a safe structure, running water, working toilets, furniture, access for every child, equipped laboratories, and teachers trained to use them.

A Repaired Building Is Only Half Of It:

A child needs more than a classroom. They need a backpack to carry their books. They need a meal to keep them going through the day. For families who have lost years and homes, these simple things decide whether a child comes back to school or stays away.

That is why we are raising funds not only for the buildings, but for over a thousand children waiting to return.
